Safeguarding

A Safe Church for All

Watnall Road Baptist Church is committed to nurturing, protecting, and ensuring the safekeeping of all children, young people, and adults at risk associated with the church, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or ability.

Our vision is to bring hope in the heart of our community through engagement, evangelism, and encounter. In fulfilling this, we welcome and run activities for children and adults at risk, and we make our premises available to organisations that work with them.

If you have a safeguarding concern, suspicion, or disclosure, please contact a member of our Church Safeguarding Team immediately. All abuse disclosed, discovered, or suspected will be reported in accordance with our procedures.

Who Should I Speak To?

Our Commitment to Safety

Our policy is underpinned by key commitments to ensure a safer environment for everyone:

Responding to Abuse: It is the duty of every church member to help prevent abuse and to respond to and report any concerns about the well-being of children and adults at risk. The church will fully cooperate with any statutory investigation.

Safer Recruitment: We exercise proper care in the selection and appointment of those working with children and adults at risk, whether paid or voluntary. This includes a clear process with enhanced DBS checks and references before a person starts their role.

Worker Support & Training: All workers receive appropriate training, support, and supervision to promote safekeeping. Workers are required to attend BUGB Excellence in Safeguarding training at least once every four years.

Safer Working Practices & Behaviour: We are committed to providing an environment that is as safe as possible and have adopted a code of behaviour for all workers to ensure everyone is shown the respect that is due to them.

A Safer Community: We are committed to the prevention of bullying, and we will appropriately manage the behaviour of any individuals who may pose a risk to children, young people, and adults at risk in the church community.
